It’s All About The Climb

Lyrics from The Climb by Miley Cyrus
I can almost see it
That dream I’m dreamin, but
There’s a voice inside my head sayin
You’ll never reach it
Every step I’m taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking
But I, I gotta keep tryin
Gotta keep my head held high
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
That sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about whats waitin on the other side
Its the climb
The struggles I’m facin
The chances I’m takin
Sometimes might knock me down, but
No, I’m not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m gonna remember most yeah
Just gotta keep going
And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
That sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waitin on the other side
Its the climb
Yeah
There’s always gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
That sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waitin on the other side
Its the climb
Yeah yeah
Keep on movin
Keep climbin
Keep the faith, baby
Its all about, its all about the climb
Keep the faith
Keep your faith
Whoa, whoa

A friend of mine, who is battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, posted this video and the lyrics in early March. I had heard of the song at that time, but really hadn’t paid much attention to it. As I listened to the song and applied it to my life, it’s like a light bulb went off.
It’s now become my anthem.
We all try to get to the other side in life, right? We always think if we can just get to the weekend, if we can just meet that deadline, if we can just get through the work to the end of the day, if we can just achieve that goal, if we just had enough money and on and on. Can you relate?
It’s really not so much about physically achieving things – I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s great to achieve our goals and important to do so, but so much of the learning is about “The Climb” and what we learn along the way.
If we can actually relish in the journey as opposed to wishing away the day or week or seeing that we haven’t yet achieved that goal – think about how much richer your experience will be!
So many people have heard me say that I’ve done so much growing personally and professionally in the past five years that it almost hurts. I often feel like the incredible hulk just exploding. Sometimes good and sometimes bad, but when I now look back on it, I realize that I had to go though the struggles and the achievements to get where I’m at. It’s really all about what I’m learning and doing along the way.
Life will never be perfect, there will always be another mountain to climb – that’s the beauty of life. We never stop growing. We never stop changing.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but it’s a matter of keeping faith – whatever that means to you – to keep moving forward and look at every experience as a blessing - no matter how hard.
I’m not where I need to be yet, but I am going to keep on climbing and enjoying all the beauty along the way. How about you?
In gratitude,
P.S. My bff and her family popped over last night to join in the celebration of my sister’s birthday. It was a wonderful evening of friends and family sharing conversation, love, and oh yeah – yummy cake around the dinner table. We got talking about our phones for some reason and my bff told me that I needed to call her phone so that everyone could hear the special ring tone she had for me. I dialed the number and what did she have for me? You guessed it, The Climb. It’s funny because we’ve never really talked about the song aside from me maybe mentioning once or twice that I liked it. I know it’s only a ring tone, but it really meant a lot to me that she chose that for me. It’s definitely my anthem. What’s yours?
